Joining the Mammoths in July 2020, Mia Olsen enters her first season as an assistant coach on the Amherst field hockey staff this fall.

A 2017 graduate of NESCAC rival Trinity College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Olsen also owns a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Westfield State University and comes to the Pioneer Valley following a three-year stint as an assistant coach for the Division III Owls. Helping lead Westfield State to the program’s second-ever Little East Conference (LEC) championship title in her first season with the Owls, Olsen mentored three All-LEC honorees and 15 All-Academic selections during her time with the Blue & White and also boasts experience as a coach and site director for HTC Field Hockey Club in Connecticut.

Capturing NFHCA National Academic Squad distinction as a three-year starter at midfield at Trinity, Olsen was named a team captain during her senior season and racked up a goal and 17 assists for 19 points in 62 appearances. Her seven assists in her junior campaign ranked first on the Bantams and sixth in the NESCAC and earned Olsen the team’s ‘Unsung Hero’ award as one of Trinity’s most unselfish and consistent playmakers.

A USA Field Hockey Level 1 certified coach, Olsen is a member of the USA Field Hockey Coaches Association and the Alliance of Women Coaches and has participated in numerous professional development symposia including the NFHCA Winter Convention, the USA Field Hockey National Coaches Forum, the Women LeadHERship Academy, the NCAA Regional Rules Seminar, and the NESCAC Coaching Symposium for Women.
